What to do to Prevent Mold on Your Carpets After A Water Damage Occurs
5/1/2019 (Permalink)
No matter how big or small your water damage is in your home or business, your affected flooring and walls are at immediate risk of mold. It does not take much water at all for mold to become harmful and for it to spread. All mold needs is a dark space, a tiny bit of moisture and it’ll grow. Within a very short period. From there it will continue to spread both visibly and also can become airborne, often leading to health problems.
To try and prevent mold on your carpet you must do the following:
Act Fast
Act fast by drying up any floods or water leaks as quickly as possible. The sooner you clean up the water, the less chance you’ll have of mold growing. Use any fans you might have to circulate the air and to try and speed along the drying process. Run fans until carpets are dry completely. To ensure they are dry, keep them on for at least 24 hours.
Invest in a Dehumidifier
Dehumidifiers are machines that will remove any excess moisture in the room. They will make the air feel cooler which helps to limit the growth of mold. Dehumidifiers help to dry out the air and ground helping to speed up the dry time for your carpeted floors.
